British Diving today announced the team that will compete in Sheffield at the final leg of the prestigious FINA/Li-Ning Diving World Series powered by British Gas on 23rd - 24th April.
Sheffield will once again see the world's top divers battle it out in the final leg of the FINA/Li-Ning Diving World Series, powered by British Gas. Sheffield International Venues managed Ponds Forge will host current World Champion Tom Daley, along with other top British athletes such as Peter Waterfield, Rebecca Gallantree and Nick Robinson-Baker, as they take on the world's best divers from nations such as China, the USA and Australia.
British Diving National Performance Director Alexei Evangulov said: "This competition in Sheffield will provide our athletes with a fantastic opportunity to compete in the FINA/Li-Ning Diving World Series without the disadvantage of jet-lag and I am hoping for some great results on home soil as a result.
"This event falls close to the FINA Diving World Cup on June 2nd and gives us the opportunity for some crucial preparation. The world's best divers will be in Sheffield and it will be invaluable to see how we compete against them before we travel to China."
"I am looking forward to seeing our new women's 3m Synchro team compete because in the past, this hasn't been our strongest event and so it will be important to see how they do. Rebecca Gallantree and Alicia Blagg, who secured fourth place in the Moscow Grand Prix, are diving together and they are an improving pair. It will be good for them to test themselves against the world's top synchro teams."
The British Diving Team, powered by British Gas, includes Sheffield teenager Megan Sylvester who is looking forward to the home crowd getting behind her as she faces her toughest international test date.
"I am so proud to be representing my country in Sheffield in front of a home crowd," said Megan. "The atmosphere will be fantastic and I can't wait to hear the British crowd supporting us. I am looking forward to competing against some of the world's best divers. The diving will provide some very exciting entertainment and it will be a great day out for the whole family."
Tickets are available at £10 for adults and £5 for children. Family deals are also available and start at £25 per day or £50 for the whole weekend. Event organisers British Swimming, have also included special group offers designed to make the event even more accessible to Diving Clubs from around the UK.
