Daley and Olympians Ready for Tough International Challenege

19th March 2009

Britain's divers are set to take on the world's best divers in their first international test of the season when they take to the boards for the first leg of the FINA Diving World Series in Doha, Qatar (21st - 22nd March). The British have found themselves stung by injuries and will be missing Olympian Tonia Couch (Plymouth Diving) and Sarah Barrow (City of Leeds) but the four-strong squad will be looking to get some good performances under their belt in their first international competition since Beijing.

Tom Daley will compete in the men's 10m Platform event looking to perform well and get his first senior international competition of the season under his belt.

On his way to securing his place on the World Championship squad, Daley scored over 500 points for his individual list which was the first time he had achieved this feat within competition. He will be looking to continue that form into this event.

Olympians Nick Robinson-Baker and Ben Swain (both City of Sheffield) have added a new dive to their 3m synchro list and the FINA Diving World Series medallists will be hoping this will pay off in Qatar.

Swain will also be competing in the 3m Individual as will his female counterpart Olympian Rebecca Gallantree.

The British contingent will then travel to Changzhou, China to take part in the second leg of the series which begins on 27th March, before returning to England ready for the British leg which takes place at Ponds Forge in Sheffield on 18th - 19th April.
